FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does “custom” mean? Most of the furniture I make is designed and built for a specific need that a client has. I work with you to figure out the style, size and details of each piece so that you end up with the furniture that fits your space and style.

Do we come to you with a design in mind? Some people know exactly what they want. They might come in with drawings. I am happy to work with architects and designers and help execute their plans. I also have customers who have a vague idea of what they want and I help them narrow it down. Once I know what you want as far as the style, dimensions and functional needs of a piece, then I can work out the details with you.

What type of finish do you use? I use a variety of finishes depending on the wood. Typically I use an oil finish on cherry and in most instances where we will be using a natural finish. I use an aniline dye with a catalyzed lacquer for most stained pieces. I always send samples of standard finishes I use. I also can match an existing piece or do a custom finish.

What are my fabric choices? I have a wide variety of fabrics and leathers to choose from. In most cases I will send fabric samples along with the finish samples so they can be observed in place. I highly recommend the Arts and Crafts textiles from a company called Archive Edition. You can browse their site and let me know which fabric you like and I can order it for you. I have many leather options too. If you want to supply your own fabric I can tell you how many yards you will need.

What is the lead time? Delivery will depend on my backlog. When I get a deposit your furniture goes on my list and I work my way down the list in that order. Currently delivery is about 18 weeks from date of deposit.

Pricing- I have listed a few prices on my site. Most of the pieces I make are custom made for a particular spot in someone’s home or office. As a result the prices will vary according to the particular needs of each piece. The biggest variables affecting the price are the amount of inlay and carvings, the number of drawers and doors and whether the doors are flat panel, raised panel or glass. Once I know the style you are looking for, the approximate dimensions of the piece and the storage requirements I can give you a price quote. After I receive a 50% deposit I submit drawings and samples for your approval.

Ordering- Once we have agreed on a price for your furniture I require a 50% deposit. This can be in the form of a check, Visa, Mastercard or American Express. That puts you in my schedule. I will then generate drawings and finish samples for you.

Shipping? I have several delivery companies I use for deliveries all over the country and the world. Shipping charges are determined on an individual basis. Generally if I have your delivery zip code I can get a delivery estimate. There is no sales tax on deliveries out of the state of Vermont.

Any guarantees? All of my work is guaranteed, for as long as I am alive, to be free from defects in materials or craftsmanship.
